It's about damned time.
CHUD.com started as a newsletter back around 1997 with about 65,000 people onboard in the year 2000. We stopped doing them because the company running our list went out of business and the guy who was in charge graduated from college and then graduated from being around. The result: A long, cold winter from the stuff. In the time since, our contemporaries have tried it on and have done well (though nobody really does things the way we do). We now feel it's high time we resurrected the long dormant beast but now with an added flavor. So, I'd like to welcome you all aboard. Here's some promises:
1. We will release one newsletter a week, without fail. That includes overrated religious holidays.
2. Every week, one DVD will be given out to a member of this newsletter. I won't guarantee a GOOD film, but it'll be a free one nonetheless. (Or a t-shirt from time to time.) How? We'll figure that shit out later.
3. We won't give your shit away to people who buy mailing lists.
There'll be more promises, but for now I'm just glad you're here. Now for the meat of this sucker...
At the year's half mark I was planning to run a top five list, but the newsletter made more sense as a place to drop these since I want this sucker to be worth the read every week. So, in what I consider a rather balls year, here's a few wheats to avoid the chaffs with:
10 V for Vendetta
9 Inside Man
8 Hard Candy
7 Slither
6 Mission: Impossible III
5 Running Scared
4 United 93
3 Thank You For Smoking
2 The Amatuers
1 Pan's Labyrinth

Welcome to the first Sewer Chewer newsletter. I'm psyched that you've joined up, and I'm going to be doing my best to offer some original content here that will make this newsletter worthwhile. But speaking of content... next week Dave Davis and I are heading to Las Vegas, to visit the set of Zak Penn's new improv poker comedy, The Grand, and then we're off to the San Diego Comic Con. Our schedules are packed, so daily site updates might be slim. With that in mind I'm leaving behind a couple of things to help you keep your CHUD addiction fed. One of them will be my "Halfway There Top 10 List" - a countdown of the 10 best films I have seen so far this year.
I think end of the year 10 best lists are great, but they're also deceiving. Sometimes very good movies from the first half of the year get left off because of the glut of goodness that comes every winter, and because the excitement over a movie can fade in ten months. It occurred to me that maybe periodical lists over the course of the year would be a great way to call attention to some movies that may fall off the radar by the time December rolls around.
The piece for CHUD will be a little more in-depth, but I wanted to give Sewer Chewer subscribers the first peek at my Top 10 films I've seen so far this year:
10 Running Scared
9 Slither
8 Brick
7 Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
6 Down in the Valley
5 Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
4 V For Vendetta
3 A Prairie Home Companion
2 United 93
1 The Fountain

Assuming we survive Las Vegas, CHUD will be present (as always) at this year's San Diego Comic Con, which really should consider a name change to something like Mondo Con or Omni Con - as the comic industry slowly dwindles away to "properties" and convoluted company "events" and their presence withers, the Comic Con has been overrun by high-profile Hollywood projects, TV shows, videogames, toys and all sorts of genre material. Which is fine with us! And while things may be too hectic during the show to provide constant coverage, rest assured we'll have plenty of goodies upon our return, potentially including chats with:
Jon Favreau (IRON MAN)
Edgar Wright (HOT FUZZ)
Nic Cage (GHOST RIDER)
Sam Jackson (SNAKES ON A PLANE)
Jason Statham (CRANK)
Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT)
Jackson Publick (VENTURE BROS.)
Zach Snyder (300)
Frank Miller (SIN CITY)
Roger Corman (DEATH RACE 2000)
Guillermo del Toro (PAN'S LABYRINTH, HELLBOY cartoon)
And a lot more. Plus all the other panels and announcements on huge movies like SPIDER-MAN 3, FANTASTIC FOUR 2, GRIND HOUSE, TRANSFORMERS, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, and all the other incredible stuff we find.
And here's what else you can look forward to in the near future on CHUD:
Fans of heroic chinned EVIL DEAD star Bruce Campbell have long awaited his short-lived Old West series THE ADVENTURES OF BRISCO COUNTY JR to ride onto DVD, and it's finally on the way. We'll have a review of the entire single season box set soon!
And it's been awhile since director Renny Harlin had a hit - will his new supernatural flick THE COVENANT be one? We'll have coverage from our visit to the set appearing on the site in the coming weeks.

Uncle Mitch says, READ!
Fetal Film
A slow week, but we'll bounce back!
Not much has been happening with Fetal Films for that last few weeks due to me taking some time off to light fireworks, scream during the World Cup and bond with my DNA gene pool (family). Rest assured, I will have a fat update for the next newsletter and now is a good time to send out a shout for some assistance with Fetal. It has grown to the point that one person cannot keep everything updated and what I am looking for is a couple of people to help with cast updates, release dates and new movie projects. If you would like to help please contact me at chudfilms@sbcglobal.net

11 Colonels Attack!
Nick chimes in with NEWS!
Some of you have asked how the CHUD.com movie was coming along, and here's your answer:
Tomorrow the first of several packages will arrive in various offices of people who requested them at movie studios, independent financing houses, and a few industry folks who want to see the movie get made. Included is a very polished, very vulgar, and very cool EPK/Documentary/Pitch Reel that runs 11 minutes. It features interviews with just about all the creators and stars as well as tons of artwork, rehearsal footage, and other stuff.
If anything showcases a sick but funny as Hell low budget R-rated comedy, this does. If you're a friend, cross your fingers. Some of these clips may wind their way onto CHUD at some point.
Additionally, I'm putting the finishing touches on the first draft of 11 Colonels EXIST!, the sequel this weekend and am about a quarter of the way into 11 Colonels UNZIP!, the last one. Someone suggested shooting all three for a discounted rate and who am I to not pull my weight in that equation? In all honesty the second one is a lot better than the first and when you start a third film with the protagonists surfing on semen it's obviously all downhill from there.
There's your update!
