I was born, raised, educated and worked much of my adult life in NYC.
After graduating from a large university in Manhattan, I worked as a theatre manager for the long-gone Cinema-5 Releasing Company's film theatre circuit. It consisted of most of New York's finest first run houses.
My first house was the Paris Theatre on 58th Street, opposite the entrance of the Plaza Hotel. I also managed (in succession) The Beekman on 2nd Avenue, the Paramount on Columbus Circle, the Sutton Theatre on East 57th Street, and (my personal favorite) The Art Theatre on East 8th Street. I also worked as 'relief' manager in every other house in the circuit.
After leaving NYC, but before moving to the Gulf (of Mexico) Coast, I worked for Sack Theaters in Boston. However, after working for Cinema-5, working for Sack was much like moving from Tiffany's to The Dollar Store (and about as interesting).
I now live on a very urban island in the center of a large port city, the island is something like a city with-in a city, and oddly, reminds me of my longtime residence in Greenwich Village. |
